New Directions are looking for a Cover Supervisor to work within a Welsh
Language Secondary School in the Cardiff area. As this role is in a Welsh
Language School the ability to speak Welsh is essential.
The ideal candidate will also have excellent interpersonal and people
management skills as there will be a degree of behaviour management involved.
New Directions can offer online training in the role of Cover Supervisor
as well as Classroom management for the right candidate.
Candidates would be responsible for:
Undertaking whole class supervision in the
absence of the class teacher;
Applying the school’s behaviour management
policy and report any difficulties to the class teacher;
Setting homework previously prepared by the
Provide additional support to teachers in
classrooms, or to carry out other administrative tasks as required.
This role is perfect for aspiring teachers without the PGCE
qualification who are looking to gain experience within education or any
Learning Support Assistants who are looking to progress their professional
development. We will also consider any candidate that has experience in youth
work, sports coaching or any form of management.
Working as a Cover Supervisor can be a very rewarding but very demanding role. Schools may wish to employ staff for cover supervision but on occasions where they are not needed for cover, they might also be released to provide additional support to Teachers in classrooms, or to carry out administrative tasks.
Ideally, candidates will be required to:
Develop curricular knowledge in line with the school requirements
Apply the school’s behaviour management policy and report any difficulties to the class Teacher/senior leadership team
Set homework in line with the classroom Teacher requirements
Provide homework under the guidance of the class Teacher
Administer class tests if requested
Supervise the work of the Teaching Assistant, providing support if required
Abide by and work towards all policies within the school, eg – behaviour management, health and safety, equal opportunities
Carry out pre-prepared exercises in the short term absence of the class Teacher
Ensure students remain on task through classroom management
You will not be required to plan lessons, but will have the opportunity to lead the class
Assisting students where required and ensuring lessons are delivered
Collect completed work and pass to the class teacher.
