Job Description

New Directions Education are currently seeking a Key Stage 2 Specialist for a large Primary School on the outskirts of Swansea City Centre. The position is to start in September and will be up to the October half term in the first instance. Applicants will need a strong classroom presence and excellent behaviour management skills for this Year 6 Class. The position is for 4 days a week but the school may require you for supply in other classes to make the hours up to full time.

We welcome applicants who:

  • Have gained Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and are registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC);
  • Are able to teach Mathematics, English and Science to a high Year 6 standard;
  • Organise and supervise Educational visits with other staff members in order to support the Key Stage 2 Curriculum;
  • Can confidently liaise with staff, pupils and parents and undertake additional duties such as Parents Evening when required;
  • Seek a long-term position teaching a full timetable. Time will be set aside for Planning, Preparing and Assessing (PPA).

The school currently has strong links with the community and surrounding secondary schools and the successful candidate would be encouraged to develop these links further. You will be joining a driven Key Stage 2 Department which is keen to ensure that by the time pupils reach Year 6 they are thoroughly prepared for secondary school. The school aims to offer as many after school activities as possible and any experience in delivering after school clubs or organising new clubs would be an advantage. New Directions will be able to offer you free online and in-house training courses which are relevant to schools’ current topics.

Your role as a Key Stage 2 (KS2) Primary Teacher in the age group of your speciality will be varied and at times challenging. But we doubt you’ll find a more satisfying career where your main objectives will be to develop the children and prepare them for the next stage.

As a Primary School Key Stage 2 Teacher you’ll be expected to:

  • Teach all areas of the school curriculum
  • Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive teaching environment
  • Plan, prepare and teach lessons that cater for all student ability ranges
  • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation
  • Maintain discipline
  • Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development
  • Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area
  • Stay up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
  • Liaise with colleagues and working flexibly, particularly within smaller schools.
