This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting learners with <strong>Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)<\/strong>.<br><br><strong><em>About the Role<\/em><\/strong><br>As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils who use a variety of communication methods, including <strong>symbols, signs, and spoken language<\/strong>, to understand and express themselves.<br>Working closely with teachers and speech and language therapists, you will help create an <strong>inclusive, accessible learning environment<\/strong> where every pupil can thrive and achieve their full potential.<br>You will provide support both <strong>1:1 and in small groups<\/strong>, encouraging engagement, interaction, and independence through clear, consistent communication strategies tailored to each pupil\u2019s individual needs and EHCP.<br><br><strong><em>About You<\/em><\/strong><br>We are looking for individuals who are:<br>Experienced in supporting pupils with <strong>Speech, Language and Communication Needs<\/strong> and\/or <strong>Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)<\/strong><br>Confident in using, or willing to learn, <strong>Makaton, picture communication systems, symbols, and objects of reference<\/strong><br>Patient, empathetic, and skilled in promoting <strong>positive communication and emotional regulation<\/strong><br>Trained in <strong>Team Teach<\/strong> or similar therapeutic behaviour approaches <em>(desirable but not essential)<\/em><br><br><strong><em>Key Responsibilities<\/em><\/strong><br>Use <strong>symbols, Makaton, and objects of reference<\/strong> consistently to support understanding and communication<br>Work collaboratively with <strong>teachers, therapists, and families<\/strong> to ensure consistent support strategies<br>Promote <strong>independence, confidence, and self-expression<\/strong> in all learners<br>Encourage positive engagement within the classroom and wider school environment<br>Prioritise the <strong>safety, wellbeing, and development<\/strong> of all pupils in your care<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Apply Today<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are passionate about supporting young people with communication needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning, we\u2019d love to hear from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>All roles are subject to satisfactory references and an Enhanced DBS check.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Directions Education is seeking compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistants to join our pool of support staff working across a range of Resource Provisions in Leeds.
