Cover Supervisor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Directions Education are currently recruiting Cover Supervisors<\/strong> to work in a range of secondary schools across Cardiff<\/strong>. This role involves providing general classroom cover for day-to-day teacher absences, training courses, and other short-term staffing needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise students while they complete work that has been pre-prepared by the class teacher. You will be responsible for maintaining a positive learning environment, managing classroom behaviour, dealing with any immediate issues that arise, and following the school’s policies and procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We offer flexible work to suit your availability, including day-to-day supply, short-term placements, and long-term opportunities that can often lead to permanent positions. This role is ideal for those looking to gain valuable classroom experience before progressing into teacher training through New Directions Education, as well as qualified teachers seeking temporary work without the responsibilities of lesson planning, marking, or assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be successful, you must have a proven track record of leading or managing groups of 10 or more people<\/strong> in a setting that can be transferred into a classroom environment. This could include experience working with children or young people, youth groups, sports coaching, training adults, or supporting individuals with additional learning needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Job Specification<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Working as a Cover Supervisor is a rewarding but demanding role. In addition to supervising classes, schools may ask you to provide classroom support or assist with administrative tasks when cover is not required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key responsibilities include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Developing curriculum knowledge in line with school requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Applying the school’s behaviour management policy and reporting concerns to the class teacher or senior leadership team.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Setting and overseeing homework as directed by the classroom teacher.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Administering class tests when required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Supporting and supervising the work of Teaching Assistants where appropriate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Working in line with all school policies, including behaviour management, safeguarding, health and safety, and equal opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Delivering pre-prepared lessons during the short-term absence of the class teacher.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Ensuring students remain engaged and on task through effective classroom management.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Leading the classroom confidently without the need to plan lessons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Providing support to students where required to ensure learning objectives are met.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Collecting completed work and returning it to the class teacher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
