Today marks National Teaching Assistant Day.<\/a> It’s a day when we recognise and celebrate the incredible contributions made by Teaching Assistants (TAs). It\u2019s time to take a moment to hear from some of our remarkable TAs registered with our Cardiff, Swansea, Aberystwyth, and Wrexham branches as they share their insights and experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspiration and Dedication
<\/strong>Caroline, a dedicated TA, found her inspiration in an unexpected place. After being made redundant, she channelled her energy into volunteering as a parent governor at her children’s school. The experience triggered a passion for teaching. She began her TA journey just after the onset of Covid and is now entering her third academic year in the same primary school. Caroline’s advice for aspiring TAs is to have a passion for teaching, embrace challenges, and thrive in a fast-paced role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cheryl, another TA in Cardiff, joined the profession in January 2023 after a long career break. She was motivated by the desire to work with young people, make a difference, and have a positive impact on their learning. Cheryl cherishes the moments when she sees the smile on a student’s face after they’ve accomplished a task or learned a new skill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery day is different and so rewarding. The joy it brings me when I see the smile on a student’s face when they have completed a task\/achieved a new skill. Knowing that your presence in the classroom allows the teacher to be more effective.\u201d \u2013 Cheryl C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Growth and Challenges<\/strong>
Halima Amed, with 13 years of experience as a TA, finds joy in helping students achieve their goals and encouraging them to surpass their own expectations. She believes that a good TA should be friendly, hardworking, observant, and possess great communication skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every day is different! Some days can be challenging and exhausting, but it’s all worth it! You develop strong relationships with both students and teachers. I love the humour, banter, and getting to know each student’s unique personality.” \u2013 Halima<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kayleigh found her calling as a TA after witnessing the impact that a wonderful TA had on her son, who has additional learning needs like ASD and ADHD. Inspired by her son’s experience and the need for TAs with a deep understanding of diverse learning needs, she embarked on her career almost four years ago.
She continues to emphasise patience, adaptability, and a genuine care for the profession as qualities that define an excellent Teaching Assistant. Her advice to aspiring Tas is to remember that a child\u2019s day can be complex, requiring a certain resilience and an understanding heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making an Impact
<\/strong>In Aberystwyth, Betra, a TA with one and a half years of experience shines a light on the immense satisfaction derived from aiding students and savouring small victories throughout each day. She expressively reminds us that a TA\u2019s role can be both mentally demanding and incredibly fulfilling.
Elizabeth, Tracey, and Sarwat all emphasise the importance of being proactive, showing kindness, and building positive relationships with students and teachers. They agree that being adaptable, patient, and having a good sense of humour are key qualities of an excellent Teaching Assistant. Their shared knowledge proves the significant impact Tas have on the educational journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wisdom and Practical Advice<\/strong>
Allison, with over 25 years\u2019 experience in the childcare sector, shares a wealth of wisdom. She advises TAs to greet children with a smile, be patient, and maintain good communication. Allison emphasises the importance of setting boundaries, being flexible, and actively participating in classroom activities.
Finally, she encourages TAs to learn from the children they work with and to find joy in the magical moments when a child’s smile reflects their success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn Happy National TA Day, a heartfelt thank you for all that you contribute to this profession, from comforting tearful eyes to tending to scraped knees. Your compassion and expertise enrich the lives of children, both in the schoolyard and within the classroom.\u201d \u2013 Allison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
