The winners included pupils from St Joseph\u2019s High School and St Marys Catholic Primary School.<\/p>\n<p>As part of Nightingale House Hospice\u2019s Wrexham Food and Drink Festival 2013, local company &#8211; Village Bakery supported the Wrexham County Borough Council\u2019s Schools \u2018Bake off\u2019 Competition. The contest, hosted by the Council\u2019s Healthy Schools Department saw school children from all over the borough entering either the primary or secondary schools competition. The final of each of these categories took place with a live \u2018bake off\u2019 at the food and drink festival over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The winners were chosen by a judging panel, including Robin Jones, Managing Director, from Village Bakery and Paul Prescott, Executive Chef from the Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa. In the primary school category, year 5 student, Phoebe Hough from St Marys Catholic Primary School beat off the competition with her cheese and chive savory scone. In the secondary school category, year 8 student, Julian Hornbrook from St Joseph\u2019s High School won with his Wrexham Pasty with a delicious ham and leek filling.<\/p>\n<p>The exciting follow up to the competition means that Village Bakery has kindly chosen to produce these two winning products over the next four weeks with the profits for each being donated to food festival organisers and local charity Nightingale House Hospice.<\/p>\n<p>The cheese and chive scone and Wrexham pasty will be in sale in all five of Village Bakery\u2019s stores for four weeks from Tuesday 28th May.<\/p>\n<p>Jenna Whittam, Branch Manager for New Directions said of the competition \u2018It is great to see pupils from the Wrexham borough taking part in this competition and the winners must be very proud to see posters of themselves in the village bakery along with their finished products\u2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Directions Education was delighted to congratulate the two winners of the \u2018Wrexham Bake-off challenge.
