{"id":49393,"date":"2015-06-15T13:49:25","date_gmt":"2015-06-15T12:49:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.new-directions.co.uk\/education\/?p=49393"},"modified":"2017-09-26T16:50:37","modified_gmt":"2017-09-26T15:50:37","slug":"supporting-newly-qualified-teachers-in-the-local-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.new-directions.co.uk\/education\/2015\/06\/supporting-newly-qualified-teachers-in-the-local-community\/","title":{"rendered":"Supporting Newly Qualified Teachers in the Local Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A host of education professionals came together in Cardiff last week to offer practical advice to students qualifying as teachers this year in South Wales.<\/p>\n<p>At a critical time in the student\u2019s journey into the education sector, leading recruitment and training provider, New Directions Education gave newly qualified teachers from the local community a head start when looking for work, by inviting recent graduates to a free NQT seminar held at their head office in Cardiff. <\/p>\n<p>The event gave individuals an opportunity to meet face-to-face with Headteachers, mentors and other pertinent representatives from the education industry who provided invaluable advice.<br \/>\nHoward Burge, National Director for New Directions opened the event, addressing the audience with a series of key points regards supply teaching. He told the delegates \u2018supply work offers you a chance to \u2018try before you buy\u2019, get some experience in a variety of schools and see what suits your plans best\u2019. He went on to add \u2018no matter what their journey with supply work they \u2018must choose an agency with integrity\u2019 to pledge their allegiance to\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The event had a host of speakers from a variety of backgrounds delivering sessions on a host of topics including:<\/p>\n<p>Ruth Dalton, Group Head of Communications, New Directions \u2013 How to protect your professional reputation on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Bussy, Headteacher, Radyr Primary School \u2013 Preparing to apply for jobs in the teaching sector<\/p>\n<p>Bob Meier, Safeguarding Officer, New Directions \u2013 Exploring safeguarding for supply<\/p>\n<p>Ed Berry , NQT Mentor \u2013 Navigating the NQT year<\/p>\n<p>One newly qualified teacher who attended the event commented, \u2018I particularly enjoyed the advice given about the applications for jobs very useful, along with lots of practical tips. The session was very beneficial and all relevant to me and other candidates\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Anna Powell, Branch Manager for New Directions Education\u2019s Cardiff Primary team, \u2018This is an invaluable event for NQT\u2019s to get ahead in the job search process.
