The Annual Cardiff City Community Foundation and New Directions Education Football Tournament finished yesterday in a nail biting final. 153 teams played over a total of five days throughout December and January.<\/p>\n
Romilly Primary School and George Street fought in the final match. It was a very close game with both teams playing tremendously well, however, George Street were just pipped to the post by Romilly Primary, in a final score of 1-0. <\/p>\n
Dawn Dobbs from Romily Primary says: \u201cWe have taken part in this tournament since it began in 1999. We first won back in 2012, and entered two teams in this year\u2019s tournament. We are just so proud to have won again.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was a great competition and really well run. The teams all played in great spirits and have had a brilliant time!\u201d commented Steven Reece from Evenlode Primary School.<\/p>\n
Melissa Preston-Watkins from George Street Primary School summed up the sentiments being felt throughout the day by all that took part – “Thank you to all concerned for helping to create memories that will last for many years to come. We have been entering now for the last nine years and have made two semi finals and one final. It’s always a very exciting time for our young ones who look up to those who took part in previous years and aspire to to well when it comes to their turn. Two years ago we won the award for Welsh FA School Of The Year and last year we won a Grassroots Impact Award. Football has had such a positive impact on our children with improvements in health, well being, team work and enjoyment of physical activity. Thanks so much for inviting us and we look forward to seeing you next year”.<\/p>\n
Finally from New Directions – a huge congratulations to Romilly Primary School who will travel to Reading to take part in the Regional Finals later this year.<\/p>\n
