Tell us about your role.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cAs a manager at New Directions Health & Social Care, I oversee\u00a0all of\u00a0our activity\u00a0in the training and recruitment\u00a0<\/span>of\u00a0Nursing, Health and Social Care staff. I\u2019m\u00a0<\/span>responsible for meeting the needs of our clients and developing our offer to agency Nurses.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI really care about providing pastoral care for our Nurses. This is why we go the extra mile to support their training, supervisions and revalidation \u2013 to make their time in work as smooth as possible and keep them satisfied in their job. It\u2019s important to me that Nurses see how they can progress their careers and invest in themselves with New Directions Health & Social Care.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s the best part of\u00a0your role?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cI really enjoy meeting new people and building genuine relationships with our clients and Nurses. At the moment, everyone is feeling the effects of staff shortages and it can cause strains on services if it isn\u2019t properly understood. Whether it\u2019s a day-to-day, medium or long-term issue, it\u2019s important to know what\u2019s important to our clients and Nurses, so we can alleviate pressures and problems where possible and support them to deliver exceptional standards of care. Having a strong, two-way relationship is vital to achieve that.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What\u2019s the most challenging\u00a0part of your role?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cSimply recruiting. There is a general shortage of agency Nurses across the Healthcare industry at the moment and lots of agencies are at capacity. It can be difficult to recruit in that climate but we have a responsibility to our clients, and their service users and patients to make sure we are building a great team of Nurses to cover their shifts.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why we\u2019re doing things differently and have an extremely beneficial training and development offer. This includes access to our in-house training team and free<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Clinical Supervision\u00a0with our\u00a0Registered\u00a0Nurse to support nurses in their CPD and revalidation.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Are there any challenges\u00a0facing\u00a0Healthcare\u00a0that you help to tackle<\/span><\/b>?\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s quite common place\u00a0for\u00a0the relationship between agencies and\u00a0agency workers\u00a0to\u00a0become\u00a0too\u00a0transactional.\u00a0This is an industry-wide\u00a0problem\u00a0and it\u00a0sadly\u00a0isn\u2019t new.\u00a0Anyone who works with us can always expect regular engagement because we actively take steps to avoid that attitude\u00a0at New Directions. We\u00a0take\u00a0the time to get to know\u00a0our\u00a0staff\u00a0and help\u00a0them\u00a0to reach their potential.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tell us about\u00a0your most rewarding achievement or experience.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cIn the past, I have worked with many services whose low staff numbers have led to serious repercussions like restrictive measures. Together, I have worked with clients\u00a0to provide\u00a0clear recruitment plans and the ability to not only\u00a0cover with immediate\u00a0agency\u00a0support, but\u00a0develop a staff team and\u00a0a clear strategy to get them out of these measures.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0support I coordinated\u00a0gave them the security they needed and helped them to overcome\u00a0external\u00a0scrutiny, so they\u00a0could\u00a0go on to\u00a0thrive\u00a0rather than\u00a0just\u00a0survive. Experiences like that make it all worthwhile.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Do you have any advice for\u00a0anyone considering agency\u00a0Nursing?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really important to have a real think about what you want in your career and then make decisions based on that. I\u2019d encourage everyone to think long term, not short term.\u00a0If you\u2019re interested in one\u00a0particular area\u00a0of\u00a0Care,\u00a0it\u2019s important to work with an agency who understands that so they can\u00a0help\u00a0you to build on\u00a0your experience.\u00a0A good agency should always have a pathway or plan to support your goals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough you\u2019re an agency Nurse, you still have a career to care for \u2013 in fact, it\u2019s even more important for you to think about your career in that way.\u201d<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
