Children’s Residential Support Worker Job in Abergavenny

New Directions Social Care are pleased to announce we are currently needing full time night, midweek and weekend staff to work in various private children’s homes throughout Abergavenney and Monmouthshire.
We are the sole provider of private children’s home staffing across England and Wales and supply staff for weekly night shifts as well as midweek and weekend work as well as on a permanent basis.
We urgently require experienced residential staff QCF level 3 qualified staff. All candidates must have proven ability and knowledge of working with children in the looked after care sector.
The children you will be caring for will be in full time care and are boys and girls that come from a variety of challenging backgrounds and have severe complex needs. All children will be very challenging to work alongside but also very rewarding work, that can result in senior and team leader roles if you progress and are looking for a future career.
Some work will also involve working in outdoor activity based roles and you will be camping, mountain biking, canoeing, walking and more which is a fun based role so if you you are looking for a challenging role then this is the job for you.

The Role:
Required to work 12 – 15 hour shifts, days, nights and with sleep ins, Working directly with children and teenagers in care aged 8 – 18 yrs of age.
On a permanent basis You will be working challenging roles and flexible shifts as above, but very rewarding work that can lead to future career job prospects and further rsw, senior roles, team leader roles, deputy roles with salaries from £16k up to £29k per annum.

Please note:
*All applicants must be 21yrs of age and over and must be car drivers due to specific client demands and requests.
*As this role is a Senior Position ALL applicants must be NVQ level 3 or QCF Level 3 Qualified specifically in ‘Children & Young People’.

*Applicants will be expected to apply for a fully enhanced DBS check – cost to be met by the applicant and also will depend upon satisfactory references.

The role of a Children’s Residential Support Worker

Children’s Residential Support Workers look after the physical and mental wellbeing of children in care. Children living in a residential care home need the same kind of support and care that all children and young people need, in order to achieve the best they can in terms of their health, education and all aspects of their development.

As a residential support worker you will need to gain the trust of children and young people who for a variety of reasons need to use residential care to help them deal with issues affecting their lives. The work involves being a role model, developing good relationships and guiding children and young people in their learning, life skills and personal development. You will have an individual responsibility to comply with statutory child protection processes and make sure that children are kept safe from harm.

You’ll need:

  • the ability to get on with people of all ages and backgrounds and gain their trust;
  • tact, patience and understanding;
  • mental strength, to cope with challenging situations and clients.

To work in children’s homes, you must be at least 18 years old and at least 4 years older than the oldest child in the home. For this reason, many of these jobs carry a minimum age restriction of 21.

Children's Residential Support Workers will be required to hold or complete the relevant Level 3 qualification in Children & Young people.

In Wales, Residential Child Care Managers and Workers must register with the Care Council in order to practise.
