Job Description

New Directions are looking to recruit a permanent Complex Needs Autism Support Worker to work in projects across the Pontypool area. The position would be providing support throughout the day to people living within their own home who have autism and/or complex needs. You will be involved in day-to-day support which may include personal care, some domestic tasks, pursuing hobbies, support in the community and promoting their independence.

This a permanent position working with one of the leading support providers in Wales

There are a wide range of hours to choose from including long days and occasional sleep-ins.

The ideal candidate will have:

Ability to use own initiative.
Worked with challenging behaviour and have PBM (positive behaviour management), Team Teach or similar restraint training.
An empathetic nature and respectful of the wishes of the client.
A passion to work with vulnerable people.
An enthusiasm for caring, good work ethics and a positive attitude
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be flexible with hours as it covers a Monday to Sunday shift patterns.
Experience of working in a team, but is confident in lone working
Ideally a valid DBS certificate registered on the update service. This however is not essential.

The role of a Support Worker

The duties of a Support Worker vary depending on the needs and wishes of the individual. They offer support for the individuals overall comfort and wellbeing and help people who need care and support to live as independently as possible. They will support individuals with many aspects of everyday living; including physical, emotional and social.

Support Workers can work in a residential care home, domiciliary care, or out in the community. Their work is defined by a care plan, which is often developed by a social worker or care manager to meet the assessed needs of the person who needs care or support.
