Mental Health Support Worker Vacancy in Cardiff

Job Description

Do you have experience in residential care and do you embrace the challenges that come with it?

You will be working in a residential service which specialises in supporting residents that suffer with mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, acquired brain injury or depression. Some may suffer from alcohol and substance abuse.

Your duties will include:

  • Providing for the personal needs of the service user.
  • Liaising with family members and external agencies
  • Relationship building with service users
  • Planning routines which help service users achieve day-to-day activities

Most importantly however you will be working in a rewarding role where you will be able to support residents and help them to develop the confidence and skills to move on from residential care.

As well as a caring and empathetic nature, you will have 6 months paid or 12 months voluntary experience in a similar role and be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of legislative requirements.

The role of a Support Worker

The duties of a Support Worker vary depending on the needs and wishes of the individual. They offer support for the individuals overall comfort and wellbeing and help people who need care and support to live as independently as possible. They will support individuals with many aspects of everyday living; including physical, emotional and social.

Support Workers can work in a residential care home, domiciliary care, or out in the community. Their work is defined by a care plan, which is often developed by a social worker or care manager to meet the assessed needs of the person who needs care or support.
