Job Description

New Directions are looking to recruit a Support Worker to work fulltime hours in a residential mental health service in Trethomas, Caerphilly. The service provides recovery orientated rehabilitation within a person-centred framework. Support is available for up to 16 individuals with serious and enduring mental illness.

The service is specifically designed for individuals with a diagnosed and enduring mental illness. They may also be experiencing other co-occurring symptoms such as substance misuse, personality disorder or other health issues.

The building incorporates the very latest technology. Levels of security can be adapted in each self-contained bed sit and throughout the building using a bespoke electronic key fob system.

Residents can also be given different levels of access to technology and services in each studio flat based on their level of risk and need. The building is carefully designed to mitigate the risk of self-harm, allowing staff to have good observation whilst ensuring service users still have privacy.

Comfortable modern design combined with intelligent technology creates a relaxing and safe environment to support recovery.

To apply for this role you must have previous experience working with adults that suffer from mental health issues.

Additional Information

The role of a Mental Health Support Worker

Mental health support workers support people with long term mental health problems, helping them to adapt to ordinary life within the community by developing coping skills rather than being institutionalised in a hospital.

Their role is to support individuals to live as independently as possible, often following illness. Their work is predominantly support and enabling, rather than personal care, and involves providing advice and guidance as part of a range of support activities rather than a specialist service. Support may be provided in supported living accommodation, a hostel or day centre.
