About the Role

We are currently recruiting compassionate and dedicated Child Residential Support Workers in the Newport area to support children and young people within residential care settings across Cardiff. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people who require emotional, behavioural, and practical support.

As an Agency Residential Support Worker, you will provide high-quality care, promote positive outcomes, and help create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where young people can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day care and support for children and young people aged 8–18 years.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
  • Support young people with education, social activities, life skills, and personal development.
  • Encourage independence while maintaining appropriate safeguarding measures.
  • Manage challenging behaviours in a calm and professional manner.
  • Complete accurate records, reports, and daily documentation.
  • Attend appointments, activities, and community-based events when required.
  • Work collaboratively with residential staff, social workers, and external professionals.
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Minimum 6 months’ experience working with children or young people in a residential, care, support, education, or similar setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, waking nights, and sleep-ins.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable:

  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Children and Young People’s Workforce, Residential Childcare, Health & Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).
  • Full UK driving licence.
