New Directions Social Care are keen to speak to experienced Support Workers in the Stroud area to work in supported living services with individuals with a mental health or learning disability condition

As a New Directions Support Worker you will be supported, informed and have consistent work. We offer a salary of around £7.50 -£9.00 per hour, weekly pay, free training and holiday pay. You will be part of a team that prides itself on providing 24/7 support to its support workers , ensuring they are well informed, safe at all times and have a great experience whilst working with us.

We are working with a national quality provider with an instantly recognisable brand to provide cover for sickness, annual leave etc.

What makes a New Directions Support Worker?  …. Ideally you will have 6 months paid or 12 months voluntary experience within this sector , you will be patient , have empathy , be respectful , have an insight into the care sector and overall have an interest and passion for providing quality care. As part of our team you will have 24/7 support, guidance, CPD and the chance to work as flexibly as you would like.

Your main duties would involve:

  • Supporting service users to live their day to day life to include support in the community.
  • Ensuring they are receiving person centred care at all times
  • Assistance and support with every day tasks to include prompting personal hygiene, cooking and encouraging the participation of social activities.
  • Prompting medication where required
  • Build relationships and rapport with service users
  • Liaise and work with the existing staff team
  • Updating of care plans and participation in care reviews

We have immediate interviews available for the right individuals and a variety of shifts available to include sleep ins , days , nights ,weekends etc.

The role of a Mental Health Support Worker

Mental health support workers support people with long term mental health problems, helping them to adapt to ordinary life within the community by developing coping skills rather than being institutionalised in a hospital.

Their role is to support individuals to live as independently as possible, often following illness. Their work is predominantly support and enabling, rather than personal care, and involves providing advice and guidance as part of a range of support activities rather than a specialist service. Support may be provided in supported living accommodation, a hostel or day centre.

Everyone working in adult social care needs English, number, digital and employability skills. Different roles require a different level of skill. Here are a few examples of the core skills you might need as a mental health support worker;

  • Team working skills to work with other professionals and services such as social workers and education and health authorities;
