The Role
We’re looking for a confident, self-motivated Business Development Executive to grow our client base across the Manchester–Liverpool area.
You’ll be the face of Checks Direct in your region — creating your own opportunities, managing your own pipeline, and turning conversations into long-term relationships. You’ll have marketing support to feed you inbound leads, but the real success comes from your drive to build your own desk, spot opportunities, and make things happen.
What You’ll Do
- Own your region. You’ll take charge of the Manchester–Liverpool territory — planning your approach, building your pipeline, and driving growth in key sectors.
- Find and win new business. You’ll identify organisations that need safer, faster background checks and show them why Checks Direct is the trusted choice.
- Turn opportunities into lasting partnerships. You’ll build real relationships — understanding client needs, tailoring solutions, and becoming their go-to contact.
- Balance outbound energy with inbound potential. You’ll create your own opportunities through proactive outreach while converting high-quality inbound leads generated by marketing.
- Manage your clients like your own business. From first call to renewal, you’ll deliver great service, spot upsell opportunities, and make sure every client feels valued.
- Be the face of Checks Direct in your area. You’ll represent the brand with confidence and professionalism — whether on calls, video meetings, or visiting clients face-to-face.
- Collaborate and grow. You’ll share insights with your team, learn from others, and help shape the future of a fast-growing business that rewards results and initiative.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven B2B sales or account management experience — someone who knows how to build relationships and close deals.
- A confident communicator who can engage decision-makers, ask the right questions, and create genuine connections.
- Driven and ambitious, with the mindset to grow your own desk and take ownership of your success.
- Organised and self-motivated, able to manage your pipeline, plan your day, and keep momentum high.
- Resilient and positive, with the energy to keep going and the creativity to find new angles and opportunities.
- Experience in background screening or DBS checks is a plus, but not a dealbreaker — we value drive and attitude over industry experience.
- You bring the determination — we’ll give you the platform, support, and freedom to turn it into real success.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Proven track record in telesales, with a focus on new business development and full-cycle sales.
- 2yrs relevant experience in a demanding telesales, ‘sales hunter’ role.
- Experience in prospecting, qualifying and converting leads through phone, email and virtual channels.
- Proficiency in business prospecting and pipeline generation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with clients and prospects.
- Ability to tailor messaging to different stakeholders and build rapport remotely.
- Experience building and maintaining long-term client relationships, particularly remotely.
- Ability to handle objections and close deals effectively.
- Willingness to develop a comprehensive understanding of Checks Direct products and services, with the ability to articulate our value propositions.
- Ability to quickly grasp and communicate new product offerings or industry changes.
- Willingness to continually learn about new sales strategies, tools and market trends.
- Proficient in using CRM systems (preferably HubSpot) to manage pipeline, track sales activities and forecast.
- Familiar with digital sales tools for outreach, virtual meetings and managing sales cycles.
- Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong organisational skills to manage multiple leads and opportunities concurrently.
- Experience in exceeding sales targets and KPIs.
- Self-motivated with a drive to exceed expectations and contribute to business growth.
- Good knowledge of compliance and the DBS market, industry trends & competitors.
- Experience in vetting related legislation including that of the Disclosure and Barring Service, Rehabilitation of Offenders act would be highly advantageous.
- Ability to manage relationships with third-party partners, introducers, and influencers.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changes in the market or sales environment.
- Experience in collaborating with internal teams, such as marketing and product teams, to align sales strategies.
- Ability to work well in a team environment, offering support and feedback to colleagues.
Personal qualities:
- Self-motivated & proactive
- Innovative & adaptable
- Confident & resilient
- Able to develop effective working relationships
- Tenacious & enthusiastic
- Integrity
- Positive attitude
