“Progress matters for Estyn, schools but most importantly for pupils”. With the need to secure successful futures, and Estyn clearly setting out the importance of pupil progress, this inset session will support you and your staff in directly achieving that.
The inset session, in practical ways and with free supportive resources, will establish:
- How the professional standards focus on pupil progress
- How to secure evidence of pupil progress in cognitive learning
- How to demonstrate pupil progress in a wide range of attitudes to learning, including the core purposes
- How to use key resources to secure the above
- How to ensure learners are listened to well
- How learners can demonstrate/articulate their own progress.
Speaker Bio – Gareth Coombes
Gareth runs his own educational consultancy businesses that provide support for schools in terms of both Inset and practical resources for improving teaching and leadership.
He is co-director of Teaching Continua, an online resource to support teachers and schools in improving teaching for learning in a supportive, developmental and sustainable way. Gareth works across a variety of regional, national and international settings, more recently in the UAE and Myanmar. Gareth was a successful headteacher of a primary school for seven years. His current passion and focus is to support schools in ‘Working smarter not harderwith AfL,’ so that pupils work harder than teachers!
