This session will cover the importance of clearly understanding the success criteria for assessment. Specificallyhow to give high quality written and verbal feedback using:

– Pit stops
– ABCDE of verbal feedback
– Using group/whole class feedback/forward
– Growing self and peer assessment
– Focusing on spelling, grammar punctuation, and handwriting

The session will also cover how to ensure pupils make progress as a result of feedback/feed-forward and developing ‘strategy feedback’ to deepen understanding.

About the speaker

Gareth_Coombes

Gareth runs his own Educational Consultancy Businesses that provide support for schools in terms of both Inset and practical resources for improving teaching and leadership.

He is also co-director of Teaching Continua, an online resource to support teachers and schools in improving teaching for learning in a supportive, developmental and sustainable way.

Gareth works across a variety of regional, national and international settings, more recently in the UAE and Myanmar.

Gareth was a successful headteacher of a primary school for 7 years. Following that he became the lead of the Primary Team for Newport LA Advisory Service

His current passion and focus is supporting schools in ‘Working smarter not harder with AfL,’ so that pupils work harder than teachers! Also, to help schools develop Curriculum for Wales.

Gareth lives near Usk and has a range of interests including doing everything for his family, and when he gets the chance, environmental work, diving, pentanque and skiing!
