This workshop aims to explore how we can improve mental health by eating well and making simple, sustainable food choices that fuel focus, reduce fatigue and support overall mental health. Teaching is a very stressful job and it’s easy for staff in schools to put nutrition on the back burner, often getting into bad habits like eating lunch whilst marking or eating sugary snacks for quick energy. Staff in schools with poor eating habits can develop issues such as digestive disorders, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, autoimmune problems and more. What we eat and how we eat directly impacts how we teach, lead, and feel – every single day.

The focus of this workshop will:

  • Explore the role of the gut microbiome
  • Understand the link between blood sugar and the impact of ultra processed and sugary foods on mood and energy levels on staff and students
  • Reflect on current eating habits and impact on mental health
  • Provide practical, evidence-based strategies for healthy eating to reduce stress, improve energy, focus and boost positive mental health
