New Directions Education is recruiting a dedicated and skilled Design & Technology Technician to support a well-respected secondary school in Leeds. About the Role
As a DT Technician, you will play a key part in ensuring the smooth running of the department. Your work will help create a safe, engaging space where students can develop their skills across Resistant Materials, Product Design, Graphics, Engineering, Textiles, and Food Technology.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare materials, tools, and equipment for practical lessons
Support teachers during demonstrations and practical sessions
Maintain, clean, and safely store tools, machinery, and workshop spaces
Complete routine safety checks, including equipment maintenance
Order materials, manage stock levels, and handle departmental admin
Support students with practical tasks when required
Follow all health & safety procedures, including COSHH regulations
We’re Looking For…
Experience in a workshop, engineering, construction, or DT environment
Strong practical skills (woodwork, metalwork, CAD/CAM, textiles, or similar)
Excellent organisational and communication skills
A proactive, safety-conscious approach
Ability to work independently and as part of a creative team
Previous experience in a school is an advantage but not essential
