Job Description

New Directions Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teacher to work in a specialist setting in Halton, supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).

About the Role

  • Teach and support pupils with PMLD, delivering high-quality, personalised learning experiences.
  • Work closely with the SEND team, therapists, and support staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and communication strategies.
  • Support pupils’ development across all areas including communication, sensory needs, physical development, and life skills.
  • Monitor progress, assess learning, and contribute to planning and reporting.
  • Promote a positive, calm and inclusive learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEND, ideally PMLD, is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of personalised learning, sensory needs, and communication strategies (e.g., Makaton, PECs).
  • Patient, compassionate and adaptable with a commitment to inclusion and equality.
  • ECTs are encouraged to apply.
  • Willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check and register with the Update Service, if not already done.
  • Must have employment references covering the last 5 years.
