The role involves providing tailored one-to-one support to help pupils thrive both academically and personally within a mainstream educational setting.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who are committed to helping students overcome challenges, build confidence, and reach their individual goals.

What We’re Looking For

Applications are welcomed from individuals who can demonstrate:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and positive behaviour management techniques.
  • Experience delivering individual support within schools, care settings, youth services, residential environments, or similar roles.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, patient, and supportive attitude.
  • A genuine desire to improve outcomes for young people and help them achieve success.

About the Role

Supporting pupils with additional needs requires adaptability, understanding, and a proactive mindset. As a Teaching Assistant, you will work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and other professionals to ensure pupils receive the personalised support they need to engage effectively in their learning.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent one-to-one support for students with SEND and SEMH needs in mainstream classrooms.
  • Assist in delivering individual education plans, behaviour support strategies, and EHCP outcomes where appropriate.
  • Support teachers in adapting classroom activities to meet students’ individual learning requirements.
  • Develop positive and trusting relationships that encourage confidence, emotional wellbeing, and engagement in learning.
  • Apply effective de-escalation and behaviour support techniques to help pupils manage social, emotional, and behavioural challenges.
  • Deliver focused interventions and learning activities under the guidance of teaching and SEND staff.
  • Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress, sharing relevant feedback with teaching and support teams.
  • Promote inclusion, independence, positive social interaction, and engagement in learning throughout the school day.
