New Directions Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Sensory Pathway Teaching Assistant to join our pool of support staff working across a range of SEND settings in Leeds, starting January 2026. About the Role – January 2026 start:
As a Sensory Pathway Teaching Assistant, you will support learners through a highly personalised approach that incorporates sensory integration, therapeutic activities, and structured routines. You will play a vital role in helping each child engage meaningfully with their environment and learning experience—developing trust, independence, and confidence in themselves.
We are looking for individuals who are:
Experienced in supporting pupils with complex health or medical needs.
Confident in providing personal care and following individual healthcare plans.
Knowledgeable in trauma-informed and holistic approaches to education.
Able to adapt learning strategies to meet a variety of SEND needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition, Speech, Language and Communication Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health.
Trained in Team-Teach or similar therapeutic behaviour strategies – desirable, not essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver 1:1 and small group support within a sensory-focused, therapeutic learning environment.
Assist in planning and delivering individualised learning journeys tailored to EHCPs and sensory profiles.
Lead or support sensory-based sessions designed to improve regulation, motor development, and engagement.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure a joined-up approach to care and education.
Prioritise the dignity, safety, and wellbeing of every learner in your care.
