New Directions Education is currently recruiting SEN Cover Supervisors to work across a range of specialist schools and alternative provisions throughout Leeds. We have opportunities available on both a day-to-day flexible basis and in long-term placements, making this an ideal role for those seeking flexibility, career development, or a route into teaching.

About the Role

As an SEN Cover Supervisor, you will lead lessons in the absence of the class teacher, ensuring pupils remain engaged, supported, and on task. You will work with students who may have a variety of additional needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • ADHD and communication difficulties
  • Complex behavioural and learning needs

You will follow lesson plans provided by the school, manage classroom behaviour positively, and create a supportive learning environment where every pupil can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects
  • Support students with SEN to access learning effectively
  • Manage classroom behaviour using positive strategies
  • Build strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence
  • Adapt your approach to meet individual learning needs
  • Maintain safeguarding and health & safety standards at all times

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within SEN settings
  • Confident leading small groups or whole classes
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Why Become an SEN Cover Supervisor?

This role is perfect for graduates, aspiring teachers, support workers, youth workers, teaching assistants, and experienced education professionals looking to develop their classroom experience while making a genuine difference to the lives of young people with additional needs.
