Location Perry Barr, Birmingham – B42
Contract Type Full-time, Monday to Friday (ONLY APPLY IF LOOKING FOR FULL TIME) 8:30am – 3:30pm Term-time only Long-term opportunity with the potential to become a permanent member of school staff following a successful placement and the required transfer period.
Pay £92.52 – £102.83 per day £462.60 – £514.15 per week Weekly pay
Job Purpose
We are currently seeking an experienced and supportive 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work with pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) within a welcoming primary school in Perry Barr.
This rewarding position involves providing consistent individual support to help pupils overcome barriers to learning, access classroom activities and develop greater confidence and independence.
The role could be an excellent next step for someone with experience in education, care, support work, nursery, social work, youth work or another setting supporting children or individuals with additional needs.
For the right candidate, there is genuine long-term potential, including the opportunity to apply for permanent employment directly with the school following a successful placement and the required transfer period.
Key Responsibilities – Teaching & Learning Support
Provide dedicated 1:1 pupil support
Support pupils with MLD and additional learning needs
Deliver targeted interventions and learning activities
Adapt activities to meet individual pupil needs
Reinforce learning introduced by the teacher
Support literacy, numeracy and communication development
Encourage greater confidence and independence
Support classroom routines and transitions
Promote positive engagement with learning
Monitor pupil progress and engagement
Work alongside teachers and SEND staff
Maintain an inclusive and positive learning environment
Person Requirements
Previous relevant experience supporting children, young people or individuals with additional needs is essential.

Nursery or Early Years work
Childcare
1:1 support
Family support
Residential support
Tutoring children with additional needs
Any other relevant work supporting children or individuals with additional needs
Applicants should also have:
Patient and encouraging approach
Strong communication skills
Reliability and consistency
Ability to follow individual support plans
Ability to build positive relationships
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Two satisfactory references
Qualifications
No formal Teaching Assistant qualification required.
Relevant experience supporting children, young people or individuals with learning or additional needs is essential.
