A specialist secondary school in North Liverpool is seeking to appoint a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a rewarding opportunity for a committed individual to support young people in reaching their full potential in a structured and supportive environment.
The Role
• Support teaching and learning for secondary-aged students with ASD
• Work 1:1 and with small groups, adapting support to meet individual needs and EHCP targets
• Assist in the delivery of structured lessons and interventions tailored to pupils with autism
• Support students with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
• Implement behaviour support strategies, promoting positive outcomes and engagement
• Help create a calm, consistent, and inclusive learning environment
• Support transitions between lessons and activities throughout the school day
The Ideal Candidate
• Holds a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or equivalent desirable)
• Has experience working with children or young people with ASD, ideally within a secondary setting
• Demonstrates a calm, patient, and consistent approach
• Has a good understanding of autism and associated needs, including sensory processing and communication differences
• Is confident using strategies such as visual supports, structured routines, and de-escalation techniques
• Is resilient, adaptable, and able to build positive relationships with students
Requirements
• References covering the last 5 years
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Relevant safeguarding training (or willingness to complete this)
