Job Description

New Directions Education is currently recruiting a resilient and compassionate Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant to work in a welcoming and supportive special educational needs (SEN) school in Knowsley. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team making a real difference in the lives of young people with additional learning and behavioural needs.

The Role:

  • As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support, helping pupils manage their emotions, build resilience, and engage positively in learning.
  • Build trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a positive role model and source of encouragement throughout the school day.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with behavioural or emotional needs, ideally within an SEN, PRU, or alternative provision setting.
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and strong behaviour management skills.
  • Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) – experience in youth work, psychology, or behaviour support would also be highly valued.
  • Be willing to complete an enhanced DBS check and register with the Update Service if not already in place.
  • Able to provide references covering the last 5 years of employment or study.
