New Directions Education is seeking an experienced and committed Teaching Assistant with proficiency in British Sign Language (BSL) to support pupils with hearing impairments in mainstream and specialist school settings across Cardiff. This role requires a dedicated individual who can contribute to an inclusive learning environment and provide high-quality support to learners with additional communication needs.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils who are deaf or hard of hearing on a one-to-one or small-group basis.
Use British Sign Language effectively to facilitate communication and learning.
Assist teaching staff in delivering adapted and accessible learning activities.
Foster positive relationships with pupils, promoting independence and engagement.
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to support individual learning plans.
Maintain appropriate records and adhere to safeguarding and confidentiality policies.
Essential requirements
A recognised BSL qualification or demonstrable competence in British Sign Language.
An enhanced DBS check or willingness to undertake one
A patient, professional, and inclusive approach to supporting learners with additional needs
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
