Job Description

New Directions are currently looking for reliable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to work with secondary schools in and around the Shifnal area.

This is a great opportunity for someone with previous school experience, a graduate looking to build classroom experience, or someone with a strong background working with young people who is looking to take the next step into education.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for delivering pre-planned lessons, managing classroom behaviour and ensuring students remain engaged and on task in the absence of their usual teacher. You don’t need to be a qualified teacher — we’re looking for people who are confident, adaptable and have a positive approach to working with young people.

Job Specification

Working as a Cover Supervisor can be a very rewarding but very demanding role. Schools may wish to employ staff for cover supervision but on occasions where they are not needed for cover, they might also be released to provide additional support to Teachers in classrooms, or to carry out administrative tasks.

  • Develop curricular knowledge in line with the school requirements
  • Apply the school’s behaviour management policy and report any difficulties to the class Teacher/senior leadership team
  • Set homework in line with the classroom Teacher requirements
  • Provide homework under the guidance of the class Teacher
  • Administer class tests if requested
  • Supervise the work of the Teaching Assistant, providing support if required
  • Abide by and work towards all policies within the school, eg – behaviour management, health and safety, equal opportunities
  • Carry out pre-prepared exercises in the short term absence of the class Teacher
  • Ensure students remain on task through classroom management
  • You will not be required to plan lessons, but will have the opportunity to lead the class
  • Assisting students where required and ensuring lessons are delivered
