Job Description

New Directions Education are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and hands‑on Supply Design Technology Teacher to support a variety of secondary schools across Harrogate. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys bringing creativity to life, and values the flexibility and variety that supply work offers.

Design Technology is a subject that shapes future engineers, architects, creators, and innovators — and we’re looking for someone who can spark that passion in students of all abilities.

What You’ll Be Doing
In this versatile and creative role, you will:
Teach across the spectrum of DT specialisms depending on your background — including Resistant Materials, Product Design, Engineering, Graphics, Textiles, Electronics, and Food Technology.
-Deliver engaging, practical lessons that encourage students to experiment, think critically, and -understand real‑world problem‑solving.
Demonstrate and model safe workshop practice, ensuring tools, machinery, and materials are used responsibly and in line with school policies.
-Adapt quickly to different school environments, forming positive relationships with students and staff while maintaining continuity in learning.
-Support students’ practical and theoretical development, whether they’re designing prototypes, working through the iterative design process, or preparing for GCSE assessments.
-Show confidence with classroom and workshop management, creating a purposeful, safe, and inspiring space for practical learning.

This is a role where no two days look the same — ideal if you enjoy variety, creativity, and hands‑on teaching.

Who We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from you if you:
-Are a qualified DT teacher (QTS/QTLS or equivalent)
-Have experience teaching at KS3 and KS4, ideally within your chosen DT specialisms
-Are confident using a variety of workshop tools and equipment, and committed to excellent safety standards
-Enjoy creative, project‑based learning and helping students bring ideas from concept to reality
-Have strong behaviour‑management skills and can adapt quickly to new settings
-Can build rapport with young people and inspire confidence through practical learning
-Hold an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or are willing to apply through New Directions

Whether you are newly qualified or an experienced teacher, your creativity and expertise are welcome.
