New Directions is looking to appoint a dedicated and resilient Learning Mentor with a focus on Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) to support pupils in a nurturing and inclusive school setting based in Everton. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people who face emotional or behavioral challenges. The role will be starting in September.
As a Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students on a one-to-one and small group basis, helping them develop the confidence, skills, and resilience needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
Job Specification:
Provide targeted SEMH support to pupils to help them engage with learning and manage their behavior.
Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support emotional regulation and well-being.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external agencies to implement support plans.
Deliver structured interventions and mentoring sessions to promote social skills, self-esteem, and coping strategies.
Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to staff and parents/carers.
Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or in a pastoral/mentoring role.
A calm, patient, and understanding approach with strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to build rapport and manage behaviour in a supportive and consistent manner.
A genuine passion for improving the life chances of vulnerable pupils.
