New Directions are seeking an Outreach Worker to join a SEMH school in Manchester, supporting children and young people who may struggle to engage with a traditional school environment. The role will involve delivering individualised learning and support sessions in a range of settings, including pupils’ homes, libraries and other community locations.
This is a full-time position with the potential for a longer-term contract for the right person.
The Role
Delivering 1:1 learning and support sessions to children and young people.
Working with pupils in a variety of settings, including their own homes, libraries and community spaces.
Supporting pupils who have SEMH needs and may have experienced barriers to education.
Planning and delivering engaging activities suited to individual needs and abilities.
Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and encouraging engagement with learning.
Supporting emotional regulation, confidence and positive behaviour.
Adapting sessions depending on the pupil’s environment, needs and engagement.
Working closely with teachers and the wider SEMH team to monitor progress.
Maintaining accurate records of sessions and communicating any concerns appropriately.
Following safeguarding procedures and individual support plans.
The Candidate
Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Support Worker or similar within a school setting is essential.
Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
Must be a confident driver with access to a vehicle, as the role involves travelling between different settings.
Confident delivering sessions independently and working in environments outside of a traditional school setting.
Able to engage children and young people who may be reluctant to participate in education.
Calm, patient and confident when managing challenging situations.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Flexible and able to adapt sessions to meet individual needs.
Organised and able to manage a varied schedule across different locations.
Committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people.
Available to work full-time and interested in a potential longer-term contract.
