The Science Teacher will play a pivotal role in transforming the educational experiences of pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This position goes beyond the delivery of academic content; it is about fostering curiosity, resilience, and confidence in young people who may have experienced significant barriers to learning.
The teacher will plan and deliver engaging and accessible Science lessons, ensuring that learning is adapted to meet the diverse needs of pupils. By using creative and practical approaches, they will help pupils develop essential skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and scientific enquiry.
In addition to academic teaching, the Science Teacher will act as a consistent, positive role model, supporting pupils in managing their emotions and behaviour, and creating a calm, structured, and nurturing classroom environment. The role requires a commitment to trauma-informed practice and restorative approaches, recognising that many pupils may have experienced disrupted education, adverse childhood experiences, or difficulties in mainstream settings.
The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers, and external professionals to provide a holistic support system around each pupil. They will promote high aspirations, celebrate achievements at every level, and help young people build the confidence and skills they need for future education, employment, and independent living.
