A specialist SEN setting in South Liverpool is seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). This is a rewarding opportunity for a committed individual to make a meaningful difference in the lives of pupils with complex needs.
The Role
• Support teaching and learning for pupils with PMLD, working closely with the class teacher and wider multidisciplinary team
• Provide 1:1 and small group support, tailored to each pupil’s individual needs and care plans
• Assist with personal care, including feeding, toileting, and mobility, ensuring dignity and respect at all times
• Support sensory-based and therapeutic learning activities, including communication and engagement strategies
• Use specialist equipment where required (e.g. hoists, wheelchairs, communication aids)
The Ideal Candidate
• Holds a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or equivalent desirable)
• Has experience working with children or young people with PMLD or complex needs
• Demonstrates a calm, patient, and highly nurturing approach
• Is confident supporting pupils with personal care and medical needs
• Has an understanding of alternative communication methods (e.g. PECS, Makaton, or similar) – desirable
Requirements
• References covering the last 5 years
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Relevant safeguarding training (or willingness to complete this)
