The School:

  • Provides dedicated support for children and young people with a range of disabilities, additional needs, and complex learning needs, helping pupils to access education, develop independence, and build confidence.
  • The school is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every pupil is encouraged to achieve their individual potential.
  • Delivers a personalised and engaging curriculum designed to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with physical disabilities, communication difficulties, autism, and complex needs.

The Role:

  • Full-time pupil support role providing dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to children with SEND, assisting with their learning, communication, personal development, and independence.
  • Use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools such as PECS, Makaton, communication boards, visual timetables, and other personalised communication strategies to support non-verbal or minimally verbal pupils.
  • Support pupils with physical and sensory needs, including mobility assistance, sensory regulation, personal care, and participation in activities, following individual care plans and guidance from specialist professionals.
  • Help pupils develop independence and life skills, encouraging them to participate in classroom activities and school routines at their own pace.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENDCOs, therapists, and other support staff to ensure pupils receive consistent and appropriate support.

The Candidate:

  • Holding a Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working with children or young people with disabilities or additional needs is preferred; however, we also welcome applications from individuals with backgrounds in care, support work, healthcare, sports coaching, psychology, or youth work.
  • A patient, compassionate, and resilient approach, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may have complex communication, sensory, physical, or behavioural needs.
