Job Description

New Directions Education are seeking a caring, proactive, and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant secondary school in St Helens, working specifically within a dedicated SEND Hub. This full-time, long-term role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people with additional needs. The School:

  • The SEND Hub is a specialised provision within the school, designed to support students with a range of additional needs including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

The Role:

  • Based within the school’s on-site SEND Hub, supporting a small group of students who require tailored interventions and a more structured environment.
  • Supporting students both in the hub and mainstream classrooms, helping to deliver individualised learning plans and meet specific educational and emotional needs.
  • Providing 1:1 or small group support, building trusting relationships with pupils, and helping to promote independence and confidence.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience supporting students with SEND in a secondary setting, particularly in a hub or specialist provision, is highly desirable.
  • A relevant Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Must be able to provide a school-based reference from within the last 5 years.
