Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEND TA – SEMH)

Location Handsworth, Birmingham – B21
Contract Type Full-time, Monday to Friday (ONLY APPLY IF LOOKING FOR FULL TIME) 8:30am – 3:30pm Term-time only
Pay £92.45 – £95 per day £462.25 – £475 per week Weekly pay
Job Purpose We are currently looking for a resilient and supportive SEND Teaching Assistant to work with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a specialist setting in Handsworth.
This rewarding role involves helping pupils overcome barriers to learning while promoting positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities – Teaching & Learning Support
Provide individual and classroom-based support
Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
Support behaviour regulation strategies
Encourage emotional resilience and confidence
Work alongside teaching and pastoral teams
Promote a safe and nurturing environment
Person Requirements
Experience supporting challenging behaviour or SEMH
Strong behaviour management skills
Patient and resilient approach
Ability to build positive relationships
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Two satisfactory references
Qualifications
No formal qualifications required
Relevant experience required, including:
Youth work
Support work
SEND school experience
