Specialist Secondary Provision (SEMH)
Pay: £90 – £100 per day
Location: Birkenhead
Basis: Ad Hoc
New Directions are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist secondary school in Birkenhead to recruit a committed and resilient Teaching Assistant.
This welcoming and nurturing provision supports boys aged 11–16, all of whom have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The school specialises in supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, alongside associated needs such as autism spectrum conditions and specific learning difficulties. Small class sizes and strong staff-to-pupil ratios allow for personalised support and meaningful relationship building.
The school delivers a broad and balanced curriculum aligned with national expectations but carefully adapted to meet individual starting points. There is a strong emphasis on literacy, numeracy, emotional regulation, resilience and preparation for life beyond school, including vocational pathways and real-world learning experiences. A positive behaviour approach and a strong pastoral culture underpin everything they do.
This role is ideal for someone who:
A background in supporting young people with challenging behaviour within an education, care or charitable setting is desirable but not essential.
In return, you will join a supportive, experienced staff team and work in an environment where progress is measured not only academically, but socially and emotionally.
