Job Description

New Directions Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a KS3 pupil with complex needs at a secondary school in Southport.

About the Role

  • Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with complex needs, helping them to access learning and participate fully in school life.
  • Work closely with teachers and the SEND team to deliver personalised support and strategies.
  • Support the pupil in developing independence, communication, and social skills.
  • Assist with adapting resources, supporting learning tasks, and monitoring progress.
  • Help to promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing through consistent and supportive practice.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND, preferably in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of supporting pupils with complex needs, including strategies for communication, behaviour, and sensory needs.
  • Patient, calm, and flexible approach, with a commitment to inclusion and equality.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow guidance from teachers and SEND staff.
  • Willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check and register with the Update Service, if not already done.
  • Must have employment references covering the last 5 years.
