New Directions Education is recruiting for a pool of passionate, supportive and highly engaged BSL Teaching Assistants to work within local SEN settings. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are dedicated to supporting Deaf and hearing-impaired learners to thrive both in the classroom and through outdoor learning experiences.
We want to hear from individuals who:
• Are confident communicators in British Sign Language (BSL) – preferably Level 2 or above.
• Have experience supporting Deaf or hearing-impaired students within an educational or care setting.
• Have knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and therapeutic behaviour support.
• Are trained in Team-Teach or other behaviour-intervention methods (desirable).
• Have a strong understanding of SEND needs, particularly ASC, Speech & Language needs, and sensory processing differences.
• Have experience with personal care or are willing to complete relevant training.
Working as a BSL Teaching Assistant is incredibly rewarding but can also be a demanding role. You will be providing specialist communication and learning support for students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups. Responsibilities include assisting with the development of individual health, education and behavioural plans, setting clear expectations to help learners achieve their goals, and building trusting and meaningful relationships through communication tailored to each student’s needs and personality.
If you are committed to making education accessible for Deaf learners and want to be part of a supportive and dynamic team, we would love to hear from you.
