New Directions Education is recruiting a dedicated pool of Medical Needs Teaching Assistants to support learners across a variety of SEND settings throughout the Wakefield and Pontefract area. If you are passionate about making a genuine difference to young people with complex or medical needs, this is a role where your care, resilience and empathy truly matter.
We are looking for individuals who are:
*Experienced in supporting pupils with complex health or medical needs
*Confident providing personal care and following individual healthcare plans
*Skilled in trauma‑informed and therapeutic behaviour approaches
*Team-Teach trained (desirable but not essential)
*Knowledgeable across a range of SEND needs, including ASC, SLCN, and SEMH

What you’ll do as a Medical Needs Teaching Assistant:
-Provide 1:1 and small group support for learners with medical and additional needs
-Contribute to the development and delivery of EHCPs
-Support sensory, practical and creative learning sessions
-Build positive, consistent relationships with students, families and staff
-Ensure every learner’s safety, dignity and wellbeing at all times
