New Directions Education is currently recruiting dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Workers to support young people across a variety of schools and alternative provisions in the Wakefield area.

About the Role
As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting pupils who may present with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, or difficulties engaging in education. You will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide consistent, structured support throughout the school day.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils who require behavioural and emotional guidance
-Implementing behaviour management strategies and following individual behaviour plans
-Supporting pupils in regulating emotions and managing triggers, using calm and consistent approaches
-Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement and a sense of safety
-Assisting in lessons to help pupils stay on task and access the curriculum
-Using de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations effectively
-Promoting positive behaviour, encouraging respect, and reinforcing school expectations
-Supporting pupils during unstructured times such as break and lunchtime
-Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to monitor and support progress
-Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment
This role is hands-on and requires someone who can remain calm under pressure, think quickly, and provide consistent support.

-Have experience supporting children or young people with behavioural needs, SEMH, or additional needs
-Are calm, patient, and resilient in challenging situations
-Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
-Can build rapport while maintaining clear professional boundaries
-Are proactive, adaptable, and confident in managing behaviour
-Have a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners
Desired backgrounds include:
Education, youth work, coaching, support work, residential care, or psychology-related fields.
