New Directions Education is seeking passionate, resilient, and dedicated Behaviour Support Workers to work within SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provisions across Wakefield.

The Role
As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will:
Support pupils with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, and additional learning needs.
Build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
Help pupils regulate emotions and develop coping strategies.
Support learning both inside and outside the classroom.
Implement behaviour management and intervention strategies.
Encourage engagement, attendance, and participation in education.
Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
Act as a positive role model, promoting self-esteem, resilience, and personal growth.
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals with experience in:
Behaviour support or pastoral roles.
Residential childcare.
Youth work and mentoring.
Sports coaching.
Care and support work.
SEND and alternative provision settings.
Armed forces, probation, or community support backgrounds.
You will ideally have:
– Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs. – Strong communication and relationship-building skills. – A calm, patient and empathetic approach. – Resilience and confidence in managing difficult situations. – A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
