Job Description

New Directions Education are seeking an experienced and passionate SENCO to join a specialist secondary SEN provision in Pontefract on a part-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated SEND professional to lead and develop high-quality provision for young people with a range of additional learning needs, including SEMH, Autism, Communication and Interaction needs, and associated learning difficulties. Working closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, external agencies, and families, the successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that every learner receives the support they need to achieve positive educational and personal outcomes.

We want to hear from individuals who have:

  • QTS and experience working within a specialist SEND or alternative provision setting
  • A strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes, and statutory responsibilities
  • Experience supporting learners with complex SEND, including SEMH, ASC, and associated needs
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals
  • A proactive and solution-focused approach, with a commitment to promoting inclusion and improving outcomes for all learners

The role will involve:

  • Leading and managing the SEND provision across the specialist secondary setting
  • Overseeing the implementation, review, and monitoring of EHCPs and SEND support plans
  • Working closely with teaching and support staff to develop inclusive practice and effective interventions
  • Liaising with parents, carers, local authorities, and external agencies to ensure coordinated support for learners
  • Monitoring pupil progress and ensuring appropriate strategies are in place to support attainment, attendance, and wellbeing
  • Providing professional guidance, training, and support to colleagues across the provision.
