New Directions Education are looking to register a pool of Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA’s) to work within Cardiff primary schools. We are seeking staff who would be available either on a full or part time basis and we will be able to offer you work as soon as all your compliance checks have been completed.
We will be able to offer work in both the Foundation Phase and Key Stage1 and 2 and you will be able to specify which age range you prefer working with. The majority of the work we have on offer is on a short term, flexible basis but we can put your CV forward for long term posts if this is of something of interest to you.
The main role of a HLTA within the classroom is to support the class teacher and help raise standards. As this position is more senior than a Teaching Assistant (a Level 4 qualification in Childcare or equivalent is required as a minimum), you will be responsible for delivering lesson content to small groups and covering the whole class when the teacher is away on a planned absence. You will need excellent communication skills and a commitment to working as part of a team within your class/year group.
The HLTA role adds further support to those teaching in a classroom environment. The post is more senior than a Teaching Assistant, and comes with added responsibilities.
A HLTA may be required to teach classes on their own at times, or cover planned absences to allow teaching staff to plan and mark.
To become a HLTA you must have experience as a teaching assistant. You will also need the support of your school and senior staff.
