Primary Trained Teacher – SEMH & Sensory Needs
We are seeking a compassionate, resilient, and skilled Primary Trained Teacher to join the schools dedicated team on the Wirral, supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and sensory processing difficulties. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of pupils who require a nurturing, structured, and highly personalised approach to learning.
You will work with small groups and individuals, delivering a creative and adaptive curriculum that supports both academic progress and emotional development. The role requires a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, sensory regulation strategies, and a commitment to building trusting relationships with pupils.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SEMH and sensory needs
Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
Implement behaviour support strategies and individual education plans (IEPs/EHCPs)
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals
Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress and wellbeing
Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills
Communicate effectively with parents/carers to support consistency between school and home
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with primary training
Experience working with children with SEMH, ASD, or sensory processing needs
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Knowledge of trauma-informed and attachment-aware practices
Flexibility, creativity, and a solution-focused mindset
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable (but not essential):
Additional SEN qualifications or training
Experience in alternative provision or specialist settings
Knowledge of sensory integration strategies
