About the Roles
As an SEN Teaching Assistant with New Directions Education, you will work with pupils who may present with:
*Autism (ASC)
*ADHD
*Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
*SEMH needs
*Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
*Sensory or physical needs
*Complex and multiple learning needs
You may provide support on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, or as general classroom support, depending on the needs of each school.
Key Responsibilities
*Support pupils’ learning through personalised strategies and structured support
*Assist with communication, emotional regulation, and social development
*Adapt learning materials under teacher guidance
*Promote independence, confidence, and engagement
*Provide calm and consistent behaviour support
*Build strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff
*Record observations and contribute to SEN support plans
*Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and wider school teams
About You
We’re looking for people who are:
*Experienced working with SEND pupils (or vulnerable young people in similar settings)
*Patient, nurturing, and resilient
*Confident with behaviour management and de‑escalation
*Strong communicators with the ability to build trust quickly
*Flexible and able to adapt to different needs and environments
Desirable training includes Autism Awareness, Team Teach, Makaton, or other SEND CPD, but some training is available through New Directions
An Enhanced DBS is required (we can support you in obtaining one if needed).
