Job Purpose
We are looking for a resilient and empathetic SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils who require consistent support, structure, and encouragement to engage positively with education.
Key Responsibilities – Teaching & Learning Support
Support pupils with SLD and SEMH needs
Work with children who may display: Challenging behaviour
Emotional and behavioural needs
Barriers to learning and engagement
Provide 1:1 and small group interventions
Implement behaviour management strategies
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
Support both academic progress and emotional development
Person Requirements
Experience working with SLD, SEMH, or challenging behaviour
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Patient, resilient, and proactive attitude
Ability to build rapport with pupils
Team player with a flexible approach
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Two satisfactory references
Qualifications
No formal qualifications required
Relevant SEND experience essential, including: Care or support work
Youth work
School-based experience
