New Directions are seeking a confident and resilient General Cover Teacher to join a supportive SEMH secondary school in Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is a full-time role starting in September 2026 and will continue for the full academic year. The successful candidate will provide general cover across a range of subjects, ensuring pupils remain engaged in learning while maintaining a positive and structured classroom environment.
We are looking for individuals who have experience working within an SEMH setting or who can demonstrate the confidence, resilience and behaviour management skills required to support pupils with additional social, emotional and behavioural needs.
The Role
• Deliver pre-planned lessons across a variety of secondary subjects
• Manage classroom behaviour effectively and promote positive learning experiences
• Build positive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress
• Support pupils with SEMH needs to access learning and achieve their potential
• Create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
• Work collaboratively with teaching, pastoral and support staff to meet the needs of pupils
The Candidate
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification is desirable
• Experience working within an SEMH school, alternative provision or similar setting is highly desirable
• Candidates without direct SEMH experience must be confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and additional social, emotional and mental health needs
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Resilient, adaptable and able to build positive relationships with young people
• Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
