Job Description

An excellent Altrincham based primary school partnering with New Directions Education is looking to recruit a BSL Teaching Assistant to support a pupil in the Early Years with Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

The ideal full-time BSL Teaching Assistant will have a good understanding of British Sign Language (BSL) – and/or hold a BSL qualification. The ideal BSL Teaching Assistant will support a pupil in the Early Years on a 1:1 basis, supporting in and outside of the classroom. Experience of 1:1 supported and targeted intervention is essential for this role.

This lovely 2-form entry primary school is based in Altrincham and boasts local transport links. Strong senior leaders have worked hard with their school community to create a warm learning environment where children feel safe and enjoy learning with their peers. With an inclusive learning environment, classrooms are well staffed and resourced to cater for needs of their pupils.

This is a longer-term role commencing in May until at least July 2025 – with the possibly of the role continuing in September. An excellent rate of pay with AWR after 12 weeks too.

Job Specification


• Supervise and provide learning support for a students on a one to one basis
• Assist with the development of individual education and Behavioural plans setting challenging expectations for pupils to achieve learning goals.
• Establish trusting relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs and personalities.
• Encourage pupils to interact with the class and engage in activities.

Personal Specification


• Have experience supporting EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) aged students on a 1:1 basis
• Have a strong understanding of British Sign Language – a qualification in BSL is advantageous
• Willing to support in the classroom as well deliver targeted interventions centering on speech and language
• Have an ability to use own initiative with an ability to ‘think on your feet’
• Have a positive and ambitious attitude to learning
• Experience in the education and training sector
